Our History
The Everett Royals were founded in 2020 by Mike Thomas, a veteran semi-pro football player who turned his passion for the game into a mission to serve the Everett community and create opportunities for local athletes.
Thomas began his football journey in high school and played semi-pro for multiple teams before deciding to build something bigger. With organized football on pause during the pandemic, he saw an opening to make a real impact — not just on the field, but in the lives of players and families across Snohomish County.
From his initial idea in 2019 to launching the Royals, Thomas focused on professional development, community connection, and opportunity. His vision was a program that helped athletes compete at a high level, grow personally and professionally, and leave each season better than they arrived.
Early Years
The Royals officially entered competition in 2021, debuting in the Washington State Football League with a roster built from local talent and driven by a team culture of accountability and resilience.
Over subsequent seasons, the team has competed in developmental and semi-pro leagues, most recently participating in the West Coast Pacific Minor League Football, working year-by-year to build consistency, competitiveness, and stronger community ties.
Royals to the Next Level
From its earliest seasons, the Everett Royals have proven to be more than just a semi-pro football team — the program has become a launchpad for athletes pursuing the next level of competition.
In 2021, Deshon Williams emerged as a standout Royal, earning opportunities with the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. His journey is a testament to the Royals’ commitment to development and exposure. Today, Williams continues his professional career with the Washington Wolfpack, representing the Royals legacy at a high level.
Following the 2022 season, brothers Isaiah Ellison and Isaac Ellison continued their football careers by signing with the University of British Columbia, taking their talents north and competing at the collegiate level.
The Royals’ impact has extended beyond American football as well. Makoa Turner and Ramsie Mesinas were both picked up to play professional rugby, highlighting the athletic versatility and elite training cultivated within the program.
Several Royals alumni have also advanced into the professional arena through arena football. Jacob Gentzler, Marcus Goodman, Marcus Bagnerise, and Brayden Counsellor went on to play for the Rapid City Marshals of the Arena Football League (AFL), continuing to represent Everett on a national stage.
These success stories reflect what the Everett Royals stand for — opportunity, development, and belief. Every player who wears the crown becomes part of a growing legacy built on hard work, resilience, and the drive to rise.
Philosophy & Growth
From the start, the Royals set themselves apart by emphasizing player development on and off the field. The organization offers resources and support aimed at education, employment, skill-building, and exposure — helping players pursue opportunities at higher levels of competition and in life beyond football.
Beyond the gridiron, Royals players and staff have been active in community service, partnering with local nonprofits, youth programs, and outreach initiatives that reflect the team’s commitment to making a tangible impact across Everett and surrounding areas.
Looking Forward
Year after year, the Everett Royals continue to grow in reputation and influence — both as a competitive semi-pro program and as a platform for personal transformation. With each season, the Royals carry forward a legacy rooted in opportunity, community, and relentless effort.
